Silent Ears, Silent HeartThe following are comments sent to us by our readers:

"I got the book on a Thursday afternoon and thought I'd read a few chapters each night...well, at 11:00pm that night I had finished the entire book! Each time I started to put it down I thought I'd read just "one more" chapter. I thoroughly enjoyed it and thought of the class discussions we will have. So many issues were written about and I think this will be a great way for us to delve into the various topics. The book immediately captured my attention and I related to so many of the scenerios. I have heard similar stories from many Deaf friends. The ending was a surprise, yet one that I thought was necessary to bring the story "full circle". It will be a wonderful compliment to the other materials I will be using in class. This will provide the springboard for great discussions."
J.C. - educator at the University of Montevallo in Alabama

"I truly enjoyed this book. As a hearing child of deaf parents and having deaf siblings, this story really hit home. It also let me walk a day in their shoes. It's an amazing story. I would and do recommend this book to anyone."

C.C. attending Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania

"The way the book was written and of course the content, not only inspired me to learn more about Deaf culture and ASL, but it touched me deeply. . . I liked how all perspectives were stated . . . Thank you for the lessons and messages you brought up and for a truly eye-opening experience."

J.G. of Riverside, California

"I have recently finished reading the new copy of Silent Ears, Silent Heart. Wow! I have truly loved the book . . . What I enjoyed most about it is how many different issues you were able to deal with---from education, hearing parents of deaf children, deaf children and hearing peers, isolation of deaf/Deaf people, Deaf people and their jobs, Deaf people and society---there wasn't a topic you didn't cover in some way! Thank you for what has easily become my favorite book!"

A.S. of Lansing, Michigan

"I am an officer of...a student organization in Mentor, OH. One of our other officers had recently purchased this book and had it in the club office. During my office hours, I began skimming through the early pages, and quickly realized that the language and story was pulling me into the book. I asked to borrow the book for a few days so that I could truly sit and read the remainder. WOW! This was a great book. I got a better insight of how difficult it can be for deaf students trying to succeed in a hearing school...(and)...the hardships that many deaf people have. It also encourages me to continue learning and practicing my ASL...I just wanted to say that I loved the book and would highly recommend this to anyone interested in furthering their understanding of the Deaf culture."

S.H. of Mentor, Ohio

"I received confirmation that we are doing good things with our (deaf) daughter...She is happy and doing well."

L.G. of Redding, California

"The writers expressed an interesting perspective on life in a "hearing" school with enough deaf students to have a functional deaf "community". "

L.S. of Atlanta, Illinois

"I just finished reading "Silent Ears, Silent Heart". Growing up in the oral philosphy, I experienced many of the same things as Christopher. It is not easy being deaf/hard of hearing in a hearing world, but the gap can get narrower with knowledge."

R.W. of Indianapolis, Indiana

"I wanted to write you to let you know that I ordered and read your beautiful book. I tore through the book, finishing it in two days and was completely devastated at the end. However, I think that the ending is unfortunately an all too common experience. You really found a way to capture the story in an engaging and meaningful way. Thank you for this book."

M.C. of Chula Vista, California

"Since I am deaf myself...the story was VERY emotional and VERY true. [My favorite part of the story was] when Christoper was Vice President of the company, since I have dreams of opening my own company someday and it has inspired me to start making that dream a reality!"

S.P. of Rochester Hills, Michigan
